Since 2007 we’ve been celebrating printmaking by sharing the magical experience of printmaking with others, while building a global community.

The event began when a dozen members of the MPC Printmakers at Monterey Peninsula College, under the stewardship of Robynn Smith, decided to print from various locations on the day of the Kentucky Derby, checking in with each other by phone and email throughout the day. Such a good time was had by all, that it quickly became an annual tradition. More and more people joined in, as we invited visiting artists and faculty, staff, and students from other colleges to print with us.

As technology evolved, PDiM did too. A website was built, outreach increased, and the project grew exponentially. Our goal of participants from all fifty US states was met and we looked ahead to all seven continents. With penguin footprints sent from Antarctica in 2015, that goal was achieved!

In 2023 we celebrated Print Day in May’s Sweet 16!

In 2024 Print Day in May is celebrating in the UK, as Robynn travels to Scotland, England and Wales in April, joining with a number of PDiM sponsors and participants to spread the word about Print Day in May.

With sponsorships, product prizes, a fantastic (and growing!) team of volunteers, and worldwide recognition, we are poised to reach our new goal of participation from artists in over one hundred countries.

Help us reach our goal! Register for the event and bring a friend along. Reach out to your printmaking friends far and wide. Post on our social media and blog.
