From my first printmaking class in high school, and throughout my teaching career, I’ve used the idea of printing multiples as a way to share a piece of artwork through the tradition of sending a card. Now, as a fiber artist, I incorporate multiple forms of printing on fabric.. From utilizing traditional etching plates, to the spontaneity of monotype printing, I choose the technique that will most effectively translate my ideas onto my hand dyed fabrics.
In recent years I’ve explored creating monotypes on fabric and paper using a homemade gelatin plate. Because of the seemingly endless possibilities of this technique, it has also been a favorite when teaching. My workshop, Creating Botanical Images on note-cards is a great introduction to printmaking for all levels of experience as artists and for any age group.
Last year I read about Print Day in May and was eager to jump on board. So it just happened that my workshop at Bailey Contemporary (BACA) in Pompano Beach, Florida, where I’m a resident artist, had already been scheduled for May 4th.. BACA is a shared space of artists’ studios and gallery in what was once the historic Bailey Hotel in Pompano Beach, Florida. The botanical theme of the workshop coincides with the two current exhibits in the galleries, Arboreal and Tropical Botanical painters.
The workshop will be on Saturday May 4, 10 am -1:00 pm at Bailey Contemporary, 41 NE 1st street, Pompano Beach, Florida.
