A New Series Begins

I celebrated Print Day in May today with the first image of a new series on migrating songbirds. I live in a stopover place and as I admire them I think of how far they have come and how far they still have to go. The first image is a drawing of a a single feather moving in the wind and suggesting the flight of the whole bird on its journey. It is a photopolymer plate printed on stonehenge.

It starts the way it did when I was four...with a piece of paper and a pencil. I have always made drawings. Now that I can turn my drawings into etching plates, I can explore shapes and shadows with ink and tone. I like to work in series and explore a set of images for months at a time. For me, it is about playing and thinking and experimenting.
