I am thankful to participate in Print Day in May for the first time ever, while representing the Evergreen State College here in Olympia, Washington! What a wonderful event, thank you to all involved. Special thank you to my professor and printmaking director Emily Adams for her mentorship and encouraging our class to participate this year. I would not be printmaking, if not for you, Emily! I am celebrating by trying out cyanotype for the first time ever—using the monotype matrix (plexiglass) to make an “ink carving,” which was then left to dry on the plexiglass, enabling it to act as a transparency to expose the cyanotype. I am combining the two “-types” monotype and cyanotype, which has allowed me to reproduce designs which would have otherwise been one-of-one. Monotype will forever be my favorite technique—working with and carving away the thick oil-based ink on plexiglass is always so therapeutic and stimulating. I am excited to experiment more with cyanotype! Happy printmaking everyone!
