The Silent Cop

“The Silent Cop” refers to the black and white obelisk in Port Adelaide which used to stand at the intersection of St. Vincent Street and Commercial Road to direct traffic in place of a policeman on traffic duty.

This 3 colour reduction linocut depicts “The Silent Cop” in Port Adelaide and is the Keep Left obelisk in the foreground. It was later moved to the current location in front of the Customs House which is the building behind the obelisk. The print was first exhibited on May 1, 2021 at Black Diamond Gallery to celebrate History Month at Port Adelaide, South Australia.

I printed an edition of 10 on Fabriano Rosapina in 2 colour runs. The blue and grey were printed as a “gradient” in the first run, the black in the second run. This piece was a challenge taking nearly 30 hours of carving but that’s good as the challenge is the part I enjoy!
