Lasting Signature

This is my first Print Day In May. It’s a wonderful experience to connect with printers around the world.

Today I’m adding my signature seal to “of Tuah-Tah” meaning Taos Pueblo, New Mexico in the Tiwa language. Many of my prints are of places we’ve visited in North America since moving to Carson City, Nevada from Kihei, Maui, Hawai`i.

I decided to carve my initials in cherry wood rather than using the stamp method. Usually it takes me several tries for placement and clarity. Still, they are not always perfect!

My experience with Mokuhanga began in the 70s with the late Don Roberts and Hiroki Morinoue at the Hui No`eau in Makawao, Maui, HI, serigraphy with David Graves; and etching with the late David Warren at the Lahaina Arts Society. In 2023, I traveled to Aylesbury, England for a five-day workshop with Laura Boswell. I made some new friends there too. @caddisprints, @hilaryeverestprints, and @tobymschreier.

Brushes, carving tools, and shina wood are from McClain’s Printing Supplies. They are always helpful with information on supplies and techniques. Shiramine washi paper is from Jackson’s, and Daniel Smith watercolors are from Blick.com.

Keep up your good work!
