New Print created 3rd May 2025 – Print Day in May

I spent Print Day in May 2025 at Fife Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop creating my first trial print for a new edition of drypoint prints with chine-colle.  I applied a light application of ink and wiped off more than usual from my plate to create a hazy effect but I think it needs more contrast. I will use more ink and might use darker colours for the next print.    I’m so pleased my sheets of chine-colle lined up – that’s the trickiest part!

Nicola McInally

Originally from Tillicoultry in central Scotland, Nicola McInally graduated from Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 2001 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. After developing her practice for several years, she received a Visual Artist Craft Makers Award in 2019, from Creative Scotland to become a member at Fife Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop (FDPW) and to explore etching techniques. Nicola works from FDPW and her studio at home in Dunfermline. Memories and drawings contemplating motherhood, autobiography, and landscape form the basis of her artwork. These landscapes are part real, part imagined and are often of personal significance. She is fascinated by the various processes within etching and one that particularly appeals is the chine-colle process. Within this process Nicola combines her love of painting, with her fairly new found love of etching. Nicola has exhibited widely across Scotland, including a solo exhibition at Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust and selected large group shows at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen Art Gallery. Two of her etched prints were selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2023 and she was one of panellist Tom Hammick’s Top Picks from the Curated Hang. Nicola is one of the featured artists in Issue 25 of Pressing Matters magazine, released on 24th Jan 2024.
