This cheerful little medicinal herb, Prunella vulgaris, grows all over the northern hemisphere, and has been known to be medicinally useful everywhere it grows. It will soothe an upset stomach or sore mouth, as a tea, and as a salve it will help skin wounds heal — it’s also known as carpenter’s herb. I’ve been enjoying making its acquaintance in northern California, and I’m extra pleased to know that pretty much any of my ancestors might also have used it — it grows everywhere my people do.
