‘Oracles’ for Print Day in May

Concept to completion of my Oracles print. The original sketch started out very simple and for a different project. When I decided to use this concept for Print Day in May it took on a mind of it’s own. I believe the current world climate unconsciously dripped into my progress sketches and I ended up with the forgetten souls of the underworld (Mother Nature at her deepest roots; La Selva Subterranea / The Wild Mother / The Underground Forest – which frequently presents itself in my work) whispering prophecies of malevolent powers, bringing ruin and destruction through obstinacy. There are 4 sigils of the 15 traditional pagan stars expressing maleficent astrological qualities. A vegvisir dangling from a sting held by an oracle; there to help you find your way through these rough cosmic seas. Circles upon circles; a representation of life / death / life doubling as the orbital paths for the otherwordly planetary movements. With death there is life. With life there is hope. This piece is printed with #cranfieldcolours Traditional Relief Printing Inks in Indian Red on found wall paper underlay aged with time and story. I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed working on this piece. It’s been a pretty magical experience.
