Wood cut print titled “Loss 2020”

I cut this block in 2015 during my mother’s battle against breast cancer. She passed on a week after I finished cutting and at the time I couldn’t bring myself to proof the plate. In fact I wasn’t creative at all for a time. Now with the Corona virus and the lockdown I found myself without creative energy again and I realized I was grieving again, for our world, for the deaths and sickness of friends and family, for the loss of connection with others. When I learned about Print day in May I thought perhaps I could revisit this past pain in an effort to address this present pain. So I share it with you now. 2 plates, 2 colors, on Somerset Satin. Printed on a Vandercook number 4 letterpress. Be well all, stay strong, stay healthy and stay hopeful. Sheila Coppola / Sidereal Fine Art Press / Tukwila, WA.
