Mary Swann on Print Day in May 2020

“It is Red Bud time, a May Day moment here in Maryland, so there are bursts of fuchsia light along the sunny sides of woods. But other delicate and tender things keep coming out and filling in and soon the red buds’ very own leaves will push the blossoms off. This print has various air-like layers with fluttery shapes dropped on top, leaves and petals maybe–I wanted to make a showery downdraft effect–to show you how the countryside has carried on as usual in this strangely ominous time.”

Monotype, 16″ x 10 1/2″, 2020
