It’s the work of a tiny insect called an Ips Typographus. They create their etching by making their way inside plant barks.

I agree, wham an amazing little thing! I had to keep the piece of spruce bark in water, so that it could become ‘flexible’, then I inked it and I spoon printed it.
Super interesting process and amazing to see.
