After the floods

On Saturday 6th April 2024 in the early morning we experienced flooding rains, about 200mm between 5 am – 7am. Cars swept away and piled up, rumpus rooms trashed, offices and studios filled with debris, rocks, trees, rubbish, machinery and equipment from other houses, bikes, boats, lawn mowers and tools washed into other houses.  The railway line and main road washed away, Whole houses destroyed over many kilometres. Then the sun came out with a bright blue sky.

The rock pool I usually swim in was full of crap and red sand and awful foam on top. I briefly immersed myself in the water to experience the flood. The light shone through the red coloured water.

I have been attempting to record the feeling of the red coloured dirty water with the light  coming through with water based monoprints on BFK Rives 100% cotton paper. The paints are dried on a polycarbonate plate.

I will print more on Saturday for Print Day in May in the printmaking studio at the Barracks Art Studios Thirroul, NSW, Australia
