I started linocut printing in late December, after finding an instructional book during a Christmas shopping trip in London. I have been teaching myself the craft since then, and now I finished my first large-scale, elaborate design. This project marks a significant step forward as my first original, detailed composition.
The design is based on the lyrics of a song by Johannes Brahms. In English, the text reads: “See, the waves dance clear / Through the moon’s radiance / You, who are all my love / Let my heart dance too.” The print itself features this text in Dutch. My goal for this piece was to translate the imagery of these specific lyrics into a carved visual work.
