A new print… Almost finished in time for PDIM!

Typical! I always start out with the best of intentions to get a print finished in time for PDIM.

I’m not really complaining too much. Rush the printing and cutting process and you mess up. There are few things worse when making a reduction linocut, than cutting away the wrong bit of lino at the wrong time or using the wrong(ish) colour on a whole edition.

Sometimes you don’t know you’ve messed up until you reach the very end of the process! That’s why I try to put as much time into designing as I do into printing.

Here is the design. I use acrylic paint on to thin computer paper. It allows me to easily cut up, scan, reverse and move around the elements of the design until I feel its right. I usually design tonally, just in blue. The colour pallet finalised later, although I often have an idea of where it’s going. In this case I had to separate the orange and blue sections in my mind to get the design to work, so for a change I’ve added another colour.

Here is my previous print, along with the acrylic design.
