Inking up in the Museum of Printing

Black Gully Printmakers are a collective of printers who use a studio adjacent to the Museum of Printing at New England Regional Art Museum in Armidale NSW. We recently curated an exhibition of 40 works on paper from NERAM’s collection, called “Seeing the Light of Day”. The opening-timed to co-incide with Print Day in May- was last night and the very interested crowd talked with group members about why we’d chosen the works displayed, what we’d found out about the artists and the techniques. Getting to know firsthand about what goes into mounting an exhibition was enlightening!

Today, we held an open studio and demonstrated techniques such as letterpress, lino, collagraph and multi-plate printing, collage, zines, and gelli plate printing. We are privileged to be able to use some of the vintage presses from the Wimble collection, housed in the Museum.

It’s been a big few weeks of printing for our group, including Wayzgoose a couple of weeks ago-a weekend of talks, demonstrations, workshops and printing a large woodblock, carved by our members. #printisnotdead @black_gully_printmakers #worksonpaper
